Importance of SEO

Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, is a very important aspect of the Internet that is often not taken into consideration. SEO is the optimisation of web pages so they appear high in the search engine (e.g. Google, Yahoo, MSN) rankings. The search engines will not automatically find you unless SEO has been performed on your site.

A lot of businesses put much consideration into a new website without ever thinking about Search Engine Optimisation. They often spend a lot of money on getting their website developed and end up with a nice website that they hope will generate a lot of revenue. Many of them don't think about marketing their website though. They don't even take SEO into consideration. If a website is not optimised for the search engines then all the time, money and effort that has gone into designing the site could go to waste.

Online there are millions of competitors from all over the world. In comparison a High Street shop only has a few competitors. The advantage of the High Street is that potential customers are only going to pass a few shops, and even fewer that are direct competition that sell similar products. The Internet, though, has the advantage that your businesses can be reached from anywhere in the world. This is one of the reasons why SEO is so important. Little or no optimisation means that your site will appear nowhere compared to the millions of competitors. Good optimisation however, can put your site towards the top of the search engine results, and therefore people searching from all over the globe can find you and use your products or services. You won't sell anything if people can't find you, but if they can you could be sitting on a gold mine.

One of the first things most people think about when starting a new businesses is marketing. They realise that without marketing there businesses will not be visible to the public. However, people often do not think the same way when it comes to a website. SEO is a type of marketing, and it is necessary if you want you website to be visible. There are of course other ways of marketing a website, but SEO is the most effective. Relatively few people type a website's address directly into their browser, even if they know which company they are searching for. They will usually enter into a search engine the company name or a term related to it. And of course most people are looking for a product or service, or information and do not have a particular website in mind. Therefore it is important to be found for search terms that are related to your business.

In a way SEO can be likened to paying rent for a shop in the High Street. To get the best position in the High Street you need to pay more rent, and your web pages need to be optimised to be in the best positions in the search engines.

The Best of SEO Tools is Your Brain...Or is It Really?

If you've ever visited SEO forums and discussions groups you must have seen those heated debates on doing SEO manually vs using SEO tools. You might have participated in them and, who knows, maybe we've even argued with you about it. I bet a lot of people (including myself) are stroking their keyboards right now to chip in their two cents on this epical SEO topic.

So let's see the points from both sides of this debate and finally decide once and for all: Do we really need SEO tools to bring our websites to the top of search results?

The use-your-brain guys argue you shouldn't rely on SEO software of any kind to optimize your website mainly because SEO tools can't properly analyze your website. A tool can't tell what's relevant to you and what will help your rankings; moreover it can harm your website.

Well of course, the AI of any tool is inferior to the man's mind (although there're exceptions ;) in terms of its analytical abilities. But automatic solutions are much, much more powerful at basic calculations and routine tasks like checking your rankings in the search engines, gathering data on your backlinks or keywords, etc. And that's where I think the proponents of a purely manual approach to SEO miss the point.

See, you shouldn't perceive any tools, including SEO tools as a solution to all problems that will do ALL the work for you and bring your website to the top of Google without you stirring a finger. There's no such tool and there'll hardly ever be any. Tools that claim to do so are mostly scams involving spammy techniques that indeed can get your website banned by Google and other search engines. But ethical SEO tools can be a great help to your SEO and a huge time-saver when you use them the right way.

Let's take rank tracking for example. It certainly not the kind of task that requires a University Degree and even a one-handed monkey can do it. But it takes up quite a lot of time to go to every search engine and find where your website is ranked. Try doing this with the help of quality SEO tools and you'll be amazed at how much time you've been wasting on tasks that can be easily done with the right tools at hand.

The same can be said about onpage optimization, link building or almost any other SEO task out there. Of course a tool, can't write articles for your website (at least not the kind anyone would bother reading) but it can help you determine the best content structure, help you properly use your keywords in the page elements, etc.

So the bottomline is: SEO tools can be a great help in website promotion. You simply need to use them for the tasks they were designed for, things they can do much faster and better than you, but don't try to shift all the workload on the tools. Use your brain where it's really needed and use a spade to do the spadework.

Link Building - 12 Ways To Increase Your Site's Ranking with Quality Links - Part II

Any SEO campaign is just impossible without a strong link building tactic. If you think about the structure of a successful optimization strategy, link building is the backbone of it. Here's the second part of my article on the 12 effective ways to build quality incoming links to your website.

6. Participate in Forums and Discussion Groups

Most forums out there allow you to put a link to your website in your signature which gives you another effective way to build links. Just make sure you don't make the same mistake a lot of website promoters seem to be falling into: don't post just to get a link. That means you don't just drop into every single thread with a 'me too' post or start tons of 'hey guys, check out my sweet website' topics in every forum you come across.

Try focusing on the forums you can get some valuable info from and have something to give back to the community. Answer questions, share some interesting and useful information. This way the links you drop in your sigs won't just hang there giving you a pure SEO effect (which is rather small) but you'll also see a substantial flow of traffic and if your website happens to be just as valuable as your forum post, people will end up linking to your website.

7. Create Great Content and Let People Know About It

I'm sure you've seen this link building tip tons of times. However, a lot of people supporting it somehow stop half way telling you just to create outstanding content. But that's just a part of the job and although it's the main part, you still need to spread the word about the work you've done. Once you've written a great blog post or article on some topic that you believe will resonate with people and spark their interest you need to tell the world about it.

Go to blogs and websites that have similar or related posts and tell how you agree, disagree or complement the points made there in your article. Whenever someone asks a question that is answered by your blogpost, give a short summary answer and drop a link. Submit your story to social bookmarking sites, and if your content is really worthy people will notice it and link to it.

8. Fix existing links

Some sites maybe linking to the pages of your website that don't exist. You can find these links with the help of Google Webmaster Tools and ask the people linking to you to change the anchor URLs to the actual pages of your website or 301 redirect the links. This way you'll not only get the credit for the links from the search engines but will also tap into the visitors that were led to 404 error pages instead of your website.

9. Exchange Links

This is the old proven method of to build links to your website. Find relevant websites that are indexed and (preferably) well ranked by the search engines and offer them to exchange links with you. Sounds easy isn't it? However, alongside with getting reciprocal links you need to make sure they stay in place, which is a very time consuming task. Good news you can save a lot of time on finding link partners and maintaining your links by using quality link building tools.

10. Hold Contests

People get excited about contests in every possible way: we like to participate in them, we like to win them and we like to tell others about them, which online means linking to them. Think of a contest you'd like to jump into and create one, if it resonates with more of us, you'll get a lot of top quality links.

11. Give Away Freebies

Yep, we like stuff, especially, we like free stuff. If you have something to give away be it a product, free wordpress template or simply valuable information, just share it with others and the links will follow.

12. Think a Step Ahead

In every industry there are certain events that happen on a regular basis and draw a lot of attention. Prepare for these events beforehand and start covering them on your website or blog before everybody else does. This way early searchers interested in the event will come to your website and a lot of people will link to you as the first to deliver information on the topic.

Hope these techniques will work for you helping you achieve higher search engine rankings. Find out more about link building to ensure strong and lasting SEO success for your website.

Greenhouse Preparation Tips

If you have some gardening experience with open tillage, raised beds, or pots on your patio, you will be able to apply much of your knowledge to greenhouse gardening with just a bit of variation to gardening under glass. A greenhouse is not in all cases a "hot house," as it is sometimes called. Some species of plants do best at slightly lower temperatures and with a much higher humidity than is usually maintained in a natural outdoor garden or inside your home. The temperature and humidity levels inside a greenhouse can be regulated fairly easily.

There are a number of reasons why gardeners may choose to garden inside a greenhouse. The most common reason is usually a desire to extend the traditional growing season into the winter months. The use of a greenhouse also enables the gardener to retain plants in the fall and throughout the winter for spring seeding or planting use. When starting new plants from seed, a greenhouse allows you to plant the seedlings sooner than you would if they were sowed directly in the outdoor garden. Starting plants from seed is also a very economical option, as opposed to the expense of purchasing young plants from a nursery. Other common reasons for greenhouse gardening include growing tropical or exotic plants, growing vegetables for winter use, and experimenting with hybridization of plants as a hobby or for home science experiments.

When preparing to set up your greenhouse, you'll want to consider designing a workflow layout for your new space. For example, there will be days you will just plant seeds and other days you will be transferring seedlings from small beds to larger beds. You may want your potting tables in one specific location, shelves in another, etc. The layout is something you want to think through carefully to insure you are not going to have to remove everything after the first season and rearrange. One way to design a layout is to spend some time doing "play work" in your greenhouse, or simply imaging how your work will be done in the space.

The location you choose for your greenhouse is critical. You do not want a shade tree blocking important sunlight. When planning the location, also keep in mind that a tree that's small right now will grow much larger over the next five, ten, or fifteen years. You should also think about traffic patterns. Is the greenhouse going to be convenient to access? Is it far enough away from the street and lot lines to satisfy local building codes and neighbors? Also be sure to explore whether your neighborhood has any local covenants that would affect the building of a greenhouse.

Another important part of greenhouse preparation is determining if you want to build the structure yourself or hire outside labor. First, you'll have to carefully and honestly assess your own abilities and skills to execute a DIY project of this magnitude. What tools will be necessary and do you have access to them and the knowledge to operate them? Are you physically fit to do the job yourself? Will you be able to execute the job in a timetable that meets your own needs and expectations?

If you do decide to hire outside help, be sure to check references carefully. Have they built other greenhouses before? If so, get a list of some projects they've completed in your local area and do a drive-by evaluation of their work. Or better yet, stop and knock on the door and inquire with the homeowner about the project. Was it completed in a timely manner and did the contractor stick to the budget? Were there any unexpected delays or costs that came up during construction? Most homeowners that are proud of the end result will be happy to talk to you and show you their new greenhouse. Lastly, you'll want to find out if the contractor is bonded and insured. The last thing you want is to hire some for a day's labor and then find yourself with a workers' compensation claim because they were injured on the job and the firm did not have insurance.

5 Ways To Drive Traffic Away From Your eBay Auction

eBay is a one-stop solution to any one who wants to make money online. Whether you just selling a few unwanted items from around your house or your want to develop a work from home business, eBay removes many of the obstacles for you. Not many other websites can help you drive targeted traffic towards your sales, process the order on your behalf and accept payment though paypal. All you need to do then is dispatch the item to your winning bidder.

And let's not forget the biggest advantage over selling on eBay. The majority of users have money in their hand just waiting to find the right item.

So if eBays so great why would you want to drive traffic AWAY from your auctions?

Well there are a few reasons why you'd be better off selling from your own website, rather than though eBay. Firstly & most importantly, think of all the listing fees & final value fees you could save if everything you sold on eBay you could sell on your own website. Personally it would save me thousands of dollars per year alone in listing fees.

Secondly, you'll be protecting yourself from eBay policy change. Imagine you were selling thousands of ebooks weekly and then suddenly eBay policy changed to prevent any ebook listings.

Overnight your business would simply disappear & your income would vanish. It's the same with listing fees - A sudden hike in fees could wipe out your business & profit overnight.

With any business, especially an online one you need to safeguard yourself against measures that are out of your control. So by driving traffic away from your auctions to your own website you'll slowly start building up an alternative source of revenue. The following methods can be used on eBay. Some are on the borderline of eBay policy & you should check out any policy violation before using them. Saying that, a huge proportion of sellers use these on a daily basis.

1) Image Hosting

All the best sellers have auction templates developed to maintain a professional listing. And of course those sellers ALWAYS use images or graphics to accurately show the condition of the items their offering.

eBay itself allows you to upload the images to their servers, other commercial & free services are available. However really you want to store any images on your own server. Not only will search engine robots follow the links from your listings to your site (helping in improved visibility in any search engines), but many browsers will show the address of where the images are loading from in the status bar - For instance "Loading Image From http://www.visitmyshop.com" or "Waiting For http://www.visitmyshop.com". This is a great way for your visitors to see to become familiar with your site.

2) Feedback

Many sellers include their own website in the feedback comments they use. Strictly it is against eBay policy but many Powersellers use comments like "Thanks for your custom from http://www.Visitmyshop.com" as standard. This is perhaps one of the widely violated policies on eBay. I've never known of anyone receive a warning for this policy, but use it with caution as you could be the first.

3) Email Address.

eBay allows your listings to contain one email link address, in addition to the "Ask The Seller A Question Link" they already provide. Use the opportunity to show the an email account associated with your domain name for example sales@visitmyshop.com. The only condition about showing your email address is the one shown must also be your registered email account with eBay. Before you list it, make sure they match up.

4) About Me Page

eBay actually allows you to link to your own website from your About Me page, as long as the actual page does not directly offer to sell items. Therefore make it an information or about us page that you link to, BUT one where visitors can easily navigate to your catalog of items for sale. Additionally drive traffic to your About Me Page by including a link on every listings, for example "Click here to learn about me". An average basic shop on eBay will get over 1500 item views within a month. If you can drive just a small proportion of these to your about me page & then to your site you'll certainly see a difference in your non-eBay sales.

5) User Id

While eBay does not allow your user id to be that of an website, you should have it as closely to resembling your site name as possible. You CAN NOT attach .com, -com or *com to the end of your user id - this is strictly against eBay policy. However nothing would stop your id being VisitMyShop. The idea is to get your eBay visitors comfortable with dealing with you away from eBay.

I hope these tips help you drive traffic away from your auctions towards your site & lessens eBays grip on your business. Remember, Ignorance is not an excuse eBay accept if you do violate their policy. While you initially get a warning for policy violation continuous offences may result in your account being suspended. Having said that, eBay mostly rely on policing from other users to enforce their policy so as long as no reports you should be in the clear.

Good luck with your eBay activity.

How To Monetize Your Web Site with Google Adsense & Affiliate Marketing

One of the best ways to monetize your site is with Google Adsense, however if you don't have the content or the on site optimization your traffic will trickle in and the ads that Google might send you won't be worth that much.

One way to make sure you maximize your Google Adsense profits is to subscribe to services that specifically tailor their content for Google Adsense and create page layouts and templates that benefit the web developer. With content management services, you can increase your traffic, click through rate and increase the profit you make on each paid advertisement.

Selling affiliate products is another important strategy that can result in profits. Not only should you spend lots of time looking for great affiliate products, you should join affiliate sites that sell many products and services that consumers want most. Some of these affiliate sites include Amazon.com and Clickbank. These affiliate sites sell either real world products or information products such as ebooks and software.

Besides choosing the right affiliate sites, it is also important to make sure that your web content matches the products you sell. It should be noted that there are a few services that have done this legwork for you and have matched content with consumer friendly products that pay out high commission rates for web developers.

Optimization is extremely important and is a great way to get free advertising and visitors from the search engines. Most web sites generate the most traffic from search engine indexes such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. You can increase the traffic you receive from these search engines by optimizing your site with keyword density and links. Keyword density means that the content on your web page has a specific amount of a certain keyword or keyword phrase. When visitors look for information, they usually type in a keyword like "life insurance". You can build web pages that have keyword densities or a percentage of keywords or phrases on a page that match a specific term. The proper keyword percentage is usually 2% to 5% of a web page.

Affiliate programs also help in improving inward linking. In affiliate schemes, you provide incentives (usually a commission on the sale of your product or service) for other websites to become affiliates (i.e. carriers). These affiliates then generate you direct traffic; the added bonus comes in the form of those inward links to your site. Affiliate Programs create powerful alliances between your web site and your various "affiliate" web sites. Providing affiliate links to your website would improve your website's search engine ranking. It makes your website more visible to crawlers.

Building links is another way to improve how high you rank on a search engine index. Links consist of your hyperlink of your web site that is posted onto another web site. The more links of your web site that can be found throughout the internet on other sites, usually the higher you will rank in the search engines. Other factors apply such as types of links and where your links are posted.

Not only is Google Adsense a great way to monetize your web site, but you should also diversify and sell affiliate products on your site. Selling an affiliate product is simple and usually requires the web developer to sign up to be an affiliate and sell a specific product of his or her choice. Usually web developers sell affiliate products that are relevant to their web site. For instance, if you have created a web site on gardening, you might want to sell an ebook on gardening tips, gardening tools from an online store such as Amazon.com or other affiliate sites. The web developer gets paid when one of their visitors buys a product through the affiliate link on their web site.

One of the ways many web developers monetize their web sites is with both Google Adsense and affiliate marketing. Google Adsense is an extremely effective way to turn traffic to one's web site into a steady income producing enterprise. Affiliate marketing is an extremely simple and very low labor intensive way to generate sales on your site. If you already have an established website and traffic or would like to build a web site to use Google Adsense and affiliate marketing, here are some tips on getting the most out of it.

There are definitely specific strategies that work better than others when trying to monetize your web site with Google Adsense, a few of them include, content management and optimization of your web page and site.

In the early years, having decent content on your web site was more than enough to draw lots of traffic to your web site, however times have changed. Today, there is much more competition regarding content and in order to drive traffic to your web site, you have to make sure you have high quality content that is focused on specific topics that people are looking for. While some topics have too much competition when it comes to web sites, many smaller web developers have turned to niche sites that focus on less popular topics that have less competition for traffic. If you are building a new web site, you will probably do the best with niches and in some cases micro niches. Many web developers put lots of time and effort into choosing the topics that they build their web site around.

Besides having quality content, you will need to optimize your website to rank high in the search engine indexes. Some optimization techniques include keyword density and linking with other sites.

Adding Google Adsense to your article site is easy, because Google easily figures out which keywords your site is optimized for and then tailors ads that may be interesting to your visitors. Besides Google Adsense or in conjunction with Adsense, you can also add other types of paid advertisements, possibly from a large online florist (for a rose web site) or even a neighborhood florist, if your site is optimized for a specific region.

Adding Affiliate Products is also a great way to monetize your site and create a profitable article site. Promoting affiliate products is a great way to earn more than just with Google Adsense or paid advertisers, with a quality affiliate product, you can make $10, $20 or even $50 or more, just on one sale of a product. Article web sites that can draw lots of traffic can easily reap affiliate commissions and make thousands every month.

What's the Difference Between Reciprocal and Non-Reciprocal Links?

Reciprocal Link Exchange is a very popular and valuable practice. This can be a valuable tool for information sharing and it helps establish communication among web developers and creates strong on line communities.

The positioning of your site depends a great deal upon how many people link to your site. This means topics and information may or may not be connected, and the probability that it's a valuable site diminishes.

Once your website is up and raring to go, it is important to start formulating a marketing strategy. But you must first understand the difference between reciprocal and non-reciprocal links.

A reciprocal link simply means that two websites are linking to each other. Both sites generate traffic for each other simultaneously.

A non-reciprocal link refers to a website that links one-way. A good linking strategy is to create as many inbound non-reciprocal links as possible, with some strategically chosen reciprocal links as well.

Remember, search engines look for key word connections between reciprocal links to determine if the sites are in fact benefiting each other.

Tips and recommendations for designing a Good Reciprocal Link Campaign

- Set a goal. Figure out how fast you can do it, then create a plan to increase and improve your Page Ranking. Start your own Marketing Linking Campaign;

- Choose your reciprocal links wisely. Connect only to websites that contain related information that readers will enjoy.

- Use your time collecting valuable information on your site, and then tell everyone you can! Offer a web site full of interesting details that similar sites' readers can't live without. The best way to gain readership is by offering a valuable resource!

- If you want to improve your Page Ranking try to do not link to sites that are irrelevant to yours and avoid sites that have a "Links Page" that is hard to find.

- Write relevant articles and publish them for free. Make sure to include a Bio Box that includes a link to your site. Stipulate that the article may be reprinted for free as long as the Bio Box is included. This will instantaneously provide extra links to your page when people reprint your work.

- Email other webmasters and simply ask for a link and provide a pre-coded HTML link for them to cut and paste to their page.

- Do not link to sites with directories that are haphazardly arranged with no categorization and avoid sites that contain more than 40 - 50 links per page. Your link will be hard to find...

- The fastest and most powerful way to make your website known is to submit it to as many relevant web directories as you can. Directory submission is the BEST way to gain targeted traffic to your site.

- Celebrate each small success and keep in mind every small step in the right direction is bringing you closer and closer to your main target.

How to Get Repeat Web Traffic - 25 online safest techniques to avoid losing potential visitors

Search Engine Optimization service encompasses everything from consultation, keyword research, copy writing, redeveloping the Website, creating incoming links, submitting to search engines and finally, reporting on its results.

You can't just put your website on the net with right keywords and all the right touches and expect your traffic and ranking will remain constant. As the web is an ever changing landscape, you have to keep track of your own web results like what is happening with the competition and also the best and highest ranked sites. The following are 25 online safest techniques, suggestions and tips to avoid losing potential visitors

1. Set a goal. Figure out how fast you can do it, then create a plan to increase and improve your Page Ranking. Start your own Marketing Linking Campaign;

2. Update the pages on your website frequently. Use your time collecting valuable information on your site, and then tell everyone you can! Offer a web site full of interesting details that similar sites' readers can't live without. The best way to gain readership is by offering a valuable resource! You can even put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated

3. Think carefully about key terms that your users will search on, and use those terms to construct your page.

4. Offer additional value on your website. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. You can also advertise their books or videos, if these products relate to your industry and are not in competition with your own product.

5. Write relevant articles and publish them for free. Make sure to include a Bio Box that includes a link to your site. Stipulate that the article may be reprinted for free as long as the Bio Box is included. This will instantaneously provide extra links to your page when people reprint your work.

6. Choose your reciprocal links wisely. Connect only to websites that contain related information that readers will enjoy. 7. Email other webmasters and simply ask for a link and provide a pre-coded HTML link for them to cut and paste to their page.

8. Place a link on your site to invite customers to 'opt in' to get a monthly newsletter or valuable coupons. Use a "description" meta-tag and write your description carefully.

9. Add a link to your primary page with a script 'Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites'.

13. Avoid stuffing pages with irrelevant words and content. Also don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with significantly duplicate content.

14. Use ALT text for graphics.

15. Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with hardly any original content.

16. The robots.txt file on your web server should be current and should not block the Googlebot crawler. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be crawled.

17. If you want to improve your Page Ranking try to do not link to sites that are irrelevant to yours and avoid sites that have a "Links Page" that is hard to find.

18. Building links is another way to improve how high you rank on a search engine index. Links consist of your hyperlink of your web site that is posted onto another web site. The more links of your web site that can be found throughout the internet on other sites, usually the higher you will rank in the search engines. 19. Use consistent colors, logos and slogans and always provide a 'Contact Us' link on each page.

20. Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts and clarifications about your product or your company that are likely to be asked. This helps to resolve most of the customers doubts in their first visit to your site.

21. Create a 'Our Policies' page that clearly defines your philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site.

22. Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate titles and keywords Offer a web site full of interesting details that similar sites' readers can't live without. The best way to gain readership is by offering a valuable resource!

23. Try to please dissatisfied customers as much as possible.

24. Never spam a client, who has opted for newsletters, with unsolicited emails.

25. A site map is required to help the users go around your site and in case the site map has more than 100 links, then it is advisable to break it into several pages to avoid clutter

Since search engine marketing is an on-going process, your positions must be constantly monitored. The fastest and most powerful way to make your website known is to submit it to as many relevant web directories as you can. Directory submission is the BEST way to gain targeted traffic to your site. If you want your search engine optimization company to do this for you, request a sample of a monthly report. It is essential that this report should show rankings for the most popular search engines

How to Increase Ranking and Website Traffic

Day after day marketing on the Internet is getting harder and harder. Search Engine Optimization is a huge business piece on the Internet. It is a cooperative effort between merchants and any website. For many years now, Search Engine Optimization has proved to be a cost-efficient, measurable method of delivering long-term results. Every day, people get interested in Search Engine Optimization and want to make money out of it.

You must be prepared to spend years developing a list, making contacts, testing various advertising methods, establishing a network of Sales representatives and/or distributors, and doing all the others jobs that go intobuilding a company (even longer to build a reputation). If you can make it through the first few years, you'll be well on your way to success.

The world is full of incredible possibilities. The Internet has expanded the ability to communicate with each other and with prospects, customers and suppliers. Selling by mail can be the easiest and least expensive method of selling your services or products.

You can convert your visitors into buyers. The following points are basic to any Website Traffic strategy:

1. First, you must decide WHAT you are going to sell or market; And you must believe in it;

2. Create a site with valuable content, products or services. Having a well designed and relevant web copy is crucial. This will help search engines easily index your web pages and rank them high.

3. Keep your site design simple so that your customers can navigate easily between web pages, find what they want and buy products and services.

4. Research and use the right keywords/phrases to attract your target customers.

5. Use your keywords in the right fields and references within your web page. Like Title, META tags, Headers, etc.

6. Place primary and secondary keywords within the first 25 words in your page content and spread them evenly throughout the document.

7. Include valuable content and free stuff on your website.

8. Creating fake domains and letting those domains point to your site is a trick thought to be effective for improving page ranking at Google. However Google claims that this is not true and they are able to spot duplicate domains and domain scams.

9. Don't look at your website as a static brochure. Treat it as a dynamic, ever-changing sales tool and location, just like your real store to which your customers with the same seriousness.

10. Demonstrate your industry and product or service expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website or for article banks so you are perceived as an expert in your field.

11. Build a good links and resources page on your website. Linking strategy is not a trick as many get rich quick merchants would have you believe. Treat linking as one important aspect of your Search Engine Optimization strategy. Links for the sake of links have no value whatsoever. Indeed, they can damage your rankings. So forget about link farms and other such nonsense.

12. Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to see what they are doing right in the way of design, navigation, content, keywords, etc.

13. Make your customer visit easy and give them plenty of ways to remember you in the form of newsletters, free reports, reduction coupons etc.

14. When selling products online, use simple payment and shipment methods to make your customer's experience fast and easy.

15. Use reports and logs from your web hosting company to see where your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.

16. Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.

17. Submit your web pages i.e. every web page and not just the home page, to the most popular search engines and directory services. Hire someone to do so, if required. Be sure this is a manual submission. Do not engage an automated submission service.

18. When not sure, hire professionals. Though it may seem costly, but it is a lot less expensive than spending your money on a website which no one visits.

19. Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.

20. Improving your website's link popularity is absolutely vital for improving the visibility of your website with regard to Search Engines. Your "link popularity" is simply a count of the number of web pages that are linked to you. You may want to know your link popularity for two reasons. The first is that your link popularity will improve your ranking on all crawler search engines. As discussed earlier, all crawler-based search engines have a component called the spider, which crawls from one webpage to another through links. Hence, more the websites linking to your website, the better are your chances of getting listed through a search engine. The second reason is that you might want to know which websites are linked to you and potentially referring traffic.

This combination of techniques is greater as a whole than the sum of the parts. While you can skip any small technique that is a part of the overall strategy, it will subtract from the edge you'd gain by employing all the tactics Choose the terms that you wish to include as the most productive search terms for your site, terms that you associate with the correct target visitors to your site. Put those in the search engines and find what pages rank near the top for them. These top-ranking sites/pages would be on the top of your list, if you needed to plant links to your site on other pages.

Once you have found the top ranked pages/sites for your chosen search term(s), you should check what sites or pages link to that site. If you get links from any of these sites to your target pages, you may be able to dramatically improve your ranking on Google and other crawler based Search Engines.

Increase Web Site Traffic – Avoid Being Blacklisted in Free Web Directories

Internet marketing professionals know the value of submitting their websites to online web directories, both paid and free. With more people using these online resources to find what they’re looking for without having to sift through search engine spam, no expert would ignore this emerging avenue of traffic.

And inclusion in a free web directory brings not only traffic, but a non-reciprocal back-link to your website. As most SEO professionals will tell you, Google and the other major search engines love non-reciprocal back-links. Getting your website included into 100 free online directories gives you a nice side effect of 100 extra non-reciprocal back-links. And back-links are one of the most important ingredients in the high search engine results recipe.

But while it is true that submitting to these free directories is relatively quick and easy, it’s also true that many webmasters are seeing acceptance percentages of less than 20%. So why are so many webmasters seeing less than 2 out of every 10 free directory submissions being accepted while others achieve an acceptance percentage near 100%? And even worse, why do some websites get outright blacklisted from many of these web directories?

The reason is the experts know how to submit their sites in a way that projects professionalism. Remember, unlike search engines, no website gets into a free directory unless a human editor manually reviews the site and explicitly adds it into their database. Most directory owners are looking for sites that will be helpful to their visitors. The more visitors their directory gets means the more people will see their ads, and the more targeted traffic that will be sent to you. This will only happen if the visitors feel the directory is beneficial.

So submit your website like the professionals do by following these guidelines:

1 - Always read the submission rules and guidelines

Many directories have minimum and maximum character lengths for title, description, keywords, etc. Many directories have only 1 permissible language for titles and descriptions. By looking at the posted rules you will ensure that you adhere to the requirements.

2 - Do not submit sites that are under construction.

Why would anyone want to visit a site that isn’t yet completed. This angers most directory owners because they in essence waste their time visiting a non-completed website. This can result in instant blacklist.

3 - Do not submit MFA (made for Adsense) websites

These are websites that offer no real content or benefit, and exist solely to get people to click on Google Adsense ads. Instant rejection.

4 - Do not submit link redirect pages

Redirect sites frequently fail to complete the link. For this reason directory owners do not like them. Instant rejection.

5 - Double-check before submitting adult or pharmaceutical websites

Most general directories will not accept these types of sites. If you wish to submit adult or pharmaceutical websites then you will have to search for directories catering to those niches. Probable instant rejection

6 - Use proper case for significant words in the title and description

Capitalize the first letter of each sentence in descriptions, as well as proper nouns. Submissions that contain fields in all UPPER CASE or all lower case are usually rejected immediately.

7 - Submit only homepage unless explicitly stated that inner page submissions are accepted

Most free web directories only allow you to submit your home page. Some do allow you to submit inner pages as long as they are submitted into the appropriate category. Do not submit an inner page unless the submission guidelines say you can. Instant rejection.

8 - Do not submit into top-level categories

This is where most free submissions are rejected. In most cases you will be required to submit your website into a subcategory. For example, you will not be allowed to submit your online jobs site into the category ‘Business". You would have to submit your site into the subcategory of "Business – Jobs" or "Business – Jobs – Work at Home" or "Business – Jobs – Work at Home – Surveys", etc. Some online directories do allow top-level category submissions, but normally only for people who are purchasing a featured listing.

If you follow these tips when doing free directory submissions then you should obtain a high percentage of acceptances. And the targeted visitors and back-links will follow.

SEO Tips: Link Building 101 - Free Web Directories

Ask any webmaster for SEO tips nowadays and they'll jump right into a conversation about meta data and keyword density. While it's true keywords are a major part of search engine optimization, link building is just as (if not more,) important. By leveraging the power of free web directories and link exchanges, you can increase site traffic and site relevancy.

Search engines serve one purpose - to help users find pages with information that is relevant to the keywords used in the search. The search engines determine whether or not your page is relevant by checking a number of factors (in no particular order):

1. The meta data on your page, including the page title and keywords.
2. The content of your page, and the number of time the keywords appear in the content.
3. The presence or absence of the keywords in the URL pointing to the page.
4. The number of links from related pages on reputable sites linking back to that page.
5. The number of links pointing from your site to related pages on reputable sites.

Each search engine places a different value on the above factors, but all of them place a very high value on the number of links pointing to the page.

You'll want to pay careful attention to these free SEO tips! Link building is the single most important thing you can do to get your site ranked highly by the search engines. With enough quality links pointing back to your site, you can easily get your site ranked in the top 20 results for many common keywords.

First, you'll want to identify free web directories that will allow you to submit your URL. You can start by checking out the "Directories" category on the Links page of the Easy Ways to Earn Money Online blog (see the link at the end of this post). It includes several of the best free website directories. It's worth noting that most of the free link directories are actually link exchange networks, in the sense that they typically require a reciprocal link on your website pointing back to the directory. Why? Because they know that the more links they have pointing back to their site, the better their page ranking will be.

Once you've identified a list of free web directories and link exchanges, you'll need to go to each site and review their submission guidelines. DO NOT use a directory submission service. You have no control over how these tools will handle your submission (or if they submit anything at all). What's worse, you may be labeled a spammer if the service ignores the URL submission guidelines of the site in question, and you could get blacklisted from many of the most popular website directories.

Also, some search engines (including Google) have been rumored to penalize you for being associated with pages located in so-called "bad neighborhoods" (sites known to engage in practices meant to abuse search engine logic or promote illegal activity). It's far better to check out these these free web directories one by one, follow their guidelines to the letter, and read their privacy policies before submitting your information.

The process of link building takes time, since most reputable web directories will want to review your site before listing it. As a result, many will take anywhere from several days to several months to add your URL to their link exchanges. Though some SEO tips I've come across place a great deal of emphasis on the page rank of the link exchanges or web directories, you don't have the luxury of being too picky when you're launching a new site. You may have to wait for several months for a well established site with a page rank of 6 or above to approve your site.

In the meantime, you're website will have little or no traffic and you'll be largely invisible to the major search engines. A better strategy would be to get your site listed with as many website directories and link exchanges as possible--regardless of page rank. This way, you'll get a small boost from the sites with a low page rank while waiting for the big boost from the sites with the high page ranks.

Finally, you can substantially increase the number of outbound links on your website by creating your own link directory on your site. Create a form that allows your visitors to submit their URL (or the URL of other sites they like). Just be sure to check out the sites for signs of illegal activity before including them on your site. You can even use your web directory to post all your reciprocal links in one place.

Remember, link building using free web directories and link exchanges is a lot like farming - if you don't take the time to sow the seeds, you'll never reap the harvest.

5. When using anchor text, your article titles or anything else, make sure it is in a topic you can compete in. Instead of competing in terms like "Internet Marketing", compete in terms like "internet marketing website promotion software" These are called long-tail phrases that increase your chance in ranking well with the search engines. You will then become a bigger fish in a small pond... it's all about Niche Marketing right?

6. Read e-books, reports and any information you can find about search engine optimization, traffic building tips, website promotion help and guides and any other type of information that can help you promote better. New methods of website promotion are always becoming available.

Traffic Building: Cheaper Ways to Get Visitors to Your Website

Getting visitors to your website has been the ultimate dream of internet marketers. More traffic equals more money, so they say. But how can you do it without spending a fortune?

Unknown to many there are a few ways of getting visitors to your site without risking a lot of money. But remember, it's not that easy. It takes more work. So, if you would rather work instead of pay to get visitors to your site, then here are a few things you can do:

1.Submit articles to article directories. This is probably one of the most effective ways of getting traffic to your site. By submitting articles with a link that points to your website, you are assured of long term traffic. As long as your article stays in the directories that you submit to, people can find it and the chances of getting traffic to your website is increased. A few of the article sites where you can submit to are goarticles.com, ezinearticles.com, ideamarketers.com, articlecity.com and articlesfactory.com.

2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It's not really rocket science. SEO is simply a technique that you implement on your site to rank higher in the search engines. Here are the things you might want to implement right away:

a) Your domain name should have your keyword in it.
b) Title tag of each page of you site should contain your keyword.
c) Your keyword should be on the first paragraph of your page.
d) The image alt tags should contain your keyword.
e) The file names of each page of your site should also have your keyword.

3.Create a blog then link it to your site. Postings at Blogger are easily indexed by Google. Updating your blog is feeding the search engines. Each time you put fresh content out, the search engines will notice it and come running to eat it all up. Putting your keywords in this fresh content will help you rank higher in the search engines. Your site gets updated a lot if you link your blog to it. Blogging is easy and it adds a lot of pages to your site. You can get free blogs at blogger.com and wordpress.com.

4.Posting in forums related to your topic. By participating in forums you'll have the opportunity to place your link in the signature line and get traffic from forum members. You can find a forum related to your topic by going to a search engine and typing your keyword + forum. Make sure the signatures you post in forums are catchy to attract readers and make them click on your link and come to your site.

These are simple, cheap and very effective ways of getting visitors to your website. Implementing the above would guarantee a stream of traffic not only for the short term but also for the long haul

Internet Home Business Traffic Building: Discussion Boards

Posting messages on online discussion boards is a great way to get free advertising for your home business. When you post a message include your signature file at the end. Your signature file should be no more than 5 to 6 lines. Include an attention-getting sentence why they should visit your web site or e-mail your auto responder.

Creating A Signature Line
A signature line is a few sentences inserted with every post you make. It is another form of online business card. Most online discussion boards will let you set up a signature of about six lines. Some will allow full messages. Include your URL, a short description, phone number, address, whatever may be relevant. If HTML formatting is allowed you may want to add a clickable link to your site with the anchor text containing your sites main subject, coupled within a phrase that gets people clicking.

Some online discussion boards allow you to leave text and graphic links at the end of your messages. You will get a better click-through rate with links than just a normal signature file.

Below are three types of messages you could post to online discussion boards:

1. Informative Comments
Post information that would be informative to the people who participate on the discussion board. It could be an article or a study you've completed. Here s where your personal experiences could come in handy. Making real connections and sharing experiences is a great way to earn trust, so that when somebody reading your post clicks through to your signature link trust won't be an issue and they are more receptive to your message.

2. Ask Questions
Post a question on the discussion board you would like it answered. This will give you a chance to meet other experts and it could lead to a profitable joint venture.

3. Answer Questions
Post the answer to another person's question on the discussion board. When you answer questions you will get known as an expert on the subject.

Before posting to any online discussion board read the FAQ or rules first. They will tell you what kinds of posts are allowed. Read the board for a few days before posting your message to see what type of messages are being posted. Never post messages on a board that are unrelated to the subject because that could get you banned.

Remember also that the habit of posting on message boards can become addictive. The best thing to do is to pick a time during the day that you schedule for this type of advertising. Also choose and how long you want to spend on the message boards, and stick it. Use of this method overtime can produce tons of backlinks to your home business website, resulting in more traffic and more sales.

Creative Ideas for Passive Traffic Building

What and why passive traffic
Unless you have a big budget, or if you are very confident that your PPC campaign will have significant ROI, then passive traffic is definitely the one you should strive for. In my early days of Internet Marketing, I advertised one of my mini-site meant for adsense at a high traffic site, which has around 7,000 visitors a day. I managed to get averagely 30 visitors a day, but once I stopped my campaign web traffic was reduced to only around 5 visitors a day. I figured out that it is important to generate "passive traffic," the kind of traffic that you work hard in the beginning, and reap your reward at the end of the day.

When talking about "passive traffic," we usually think of getting it from search engine by optimizing your page. But in fact, search engine is not the only way to get it. In this article, we are going to explore some other creative ways we can do to drive passive traffic.

How to drive traffic from well-ranked sites without spending a dime?
In the above paragraph, I just shared with you on how I drove traffic to my mini-site by advertising it at a well-ranked site. A piece of good news for you is, you can still make use of the same tactic without spending a dime. To get your sales agent on other sites, write high quality content and offer to those webmasters your workpiece. In blogging we call this "guest blogging." There will of course be webmasters who will just ignore or decline your request. Don't take it personally and continue to the next one. Once you get your contents placed on other high ranked sites, then that is it. Not only you will have your "salesman" to promote your site, it will even improve your site's rank from the SEO point of view.

You don't have to stop only on blogs or other websites. In fact, any place where lots of people gather, such as community sites is a good place for promoting your site.

How to drive traffic from community sites such as blogs and forums
We had talked on how to drive traffic from blogs through guest blogging. However, let me introduce a simpler way. To do this, you will need to have your own blog. First, find blogs related to your niche, browse through their contents, and find contents that you think you can elaborate further. Then, write a content that adds more value to the original content in your own blog. Once this is completed, go back to the original blog page, leave a comment summarizing your points, and leave your blog post link for further reading. By doing this, you are helping the other blog owner to strengthen his contents, his readers will have more resources and you will gain visitors to your site. It is a win-win situation.

Another great place to put your sales agents are community sites such as forums. The trick is to find a community site that relates to your niche. I know it is not easy to find forums that give you permission to leave links in the forum posts, but if you put a bit more effort I'm sure you can find a few. The trick is as just what we did with the blogs. Find people problems, solve it and drive them to your blog post that solve their problems. Everybody wins.

At this point I think you had realized that all those tactics above requires you to be generous. Let us explore a bit more on how to drive traffic by being generous.

How to drive traffic by being generous
I learned a great philosophy lately. That is, most rich people become rich by being generous. They find ways to provide their product or services to more and more people with less and less cost. Similarly, if you want more traffic to your site you should provide more and more free services generously to your audience. One thing about free stuff is, people like to share them. When done correctly it can be highly viral and give you tremendous exposure. Some examples are such as:
  • Write free guides on your niche, provide it for free and allow other people to share it for free too. Needless to say, you should have a link that drives readers back to your site.
  • Create free templates - I'm using a free template for my blog and it has a link back to the creator's site. You can use the same tactic if you have the skill in making templates.
  • Create free software - I've downloaded a free eBook writer software recently. I'm very impressed in its great features despite of being free.
